Can I just say it out loud? My JFL couples are the BEST – they are the sweetest, kindest, most thoughtful couples and Matt & Katie are a prime example of that! Like many of my brides, Katie first got in touch by way of email 18 months ago – she explained that she was living over in Western Australia, in a remote part of the state and so was planning her entire Brisbane wedding from the other side of the country – something that would stress a lot of people out (me included) but let me just say, with the help of Emma from Coco & Confetti, she did such a wonderful job. Matt & Katie’s wedding day was full of incredible details (just wait until you see her Badgley Mishka shoes!) thoughtful touches and my favourite, the sweetest personalised vows spoken to each other. It was honestly a day Nick & I’ll remember for a long time to come and we were so honoured to document it through photos & film last weekend.
Matt & Katie, thank you both for not only an amazing wedding, but for being two incredible people and sharing your lives & love with us. It has honestly meant the world to both Nick & I and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for you both as husband & wife!
Here is a glimpse into their beautiful Wedding Day story:
Katie got ready at The Marriott Hotel here in Brisbane, with her mum Nicky, two best friends Laura & Sara and her daughter, Madi… as soon as I arrived, I got busy photographing all her beautiful details, while the girls sipped on champagne and were pampered with their hair & makeup being done! It’s always such a lovely morning to be a part of…
Before long it was time for Katie to get dressed into her gorgeous Wedding Gown… with the help from Laura, Sara & Nicky – she was well taken care of!
I LOVE the expression on Madi’s face when she first saw her mum Katie… I agree Madi, she does look like a princess. These moments are the sweetest!
Meanwhile, Emma from Coco & Confetti was putting the final touches on their Ceremony area – which was under a beautiful fig tree in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens. Being in winter, Matt & Katie had chosen a 2pm Ceremony time, which was just perfect for their Wedding Day (allowing enough time so no part of the day was rushed – this is SO important to get right, so well done you guys!)
We had time for a photo with Matt & his groomsmen before the Ceremony – I just love all the excitement & anticipation in these moments… and of course, some special time with his son Will was a must – just look at his mini buttonhole. The cutest!
Matt & Katie’s amazing Celebrant Annie from Annie Grace Ceremonies had instructed Matt to face in the opposite direction so that he couldn’t glimpse his bride too early (as it was a little walk through the park and Katie could be spotted from a distance…) It was the best decision ever and meant that Matt’s reaction when he first laid eyes on Katie was just beautiful.
Introducing Mr & Mrs Bloxsidge!
After a lovely Ceremony, it was time for their Bridal Portraits… which were made just perfect in the Botanic Gardens!
We even had time for the bridal party to share a few drinks and create memories that will last forever…
On the way to the Reception, we stopped in at the Kangaroo Point Cliffs for some sunset photos – which is where Matt & Katie shared their first date all those years ago – so this was even more special!
As the sun set on their Wedding Day, it was time to join their guests for their Wedding Reception at The Landing at Dockside – which was made to look extra beautiful by the team at Coco & Confetti. Honestly, this is when having a stylist really pays off – Emma totally transforming this space into the romantic vision Katie had shared with her. Just stunning!
After their entrance, it was time for some heartfelt speeches, delicious food & time with their wedding guests…
Unbeknownst to Matt, Katie had organised a little surprise for her new husband – a fireworks display! Aerial Pyrotech did an amazing job, launching the fireworks off a boat in the Brisbane River – you should have heard the response from all their guests as the fireworks started, not to mention the look of joy & happiness on Matt’s face! Being that I cannot keep a surprise from Nick for more than 2 seconds, I was so impressed you pulled this off Katie, well done!
As the minutes passed and the night wore on, Matt & Katie shared their first dance as husband & wife – before the dance floor opened and everyone joined in…
In my opinion – this is how every Wedding Day should end!
