When I was a kid I remember mum often stopping by the Lenard’s Chicken stand on her way out of our local shopping centre – normally to pick up some chicken cordon bleu’s, they were a family favourite of ours… Dan & Sarah also have very fond memories of Lenard’s – but for more reasons than their delicious chicken! I love getting to know my couples as much as I can – so I was intrigued to know how they first met and I must admit, my heart melted a little when I learnt they they first met as teenagers, both working for Lenard’s. Now, years later – with Dan choosing a career as a Doctor and Sarah as a Teacher, they both still remember the beginning of their love story with a smile, chicken cordon bleu’s and all.
Renee & I were lucky enough to photograph their Wedding Day last Saturday, here in Brisbane! Having spent a lot of time overseas they had friends & family travel from far & wide, which only added to the vibe of their special day. It’s always an amazing celebration, but even more so when people travel to be a part of the day. It was certainly a wedding I’ll remember for a long time to come – and luckily, not a raindrop in sight (a couple of days earlier, ex Cyclone Debbie had blasted SEQ with strong winds and a whole lot of rain, so it was a relief that she cleared out in time for their Wedding! Thanks Debbie!)
Here is a glimpse into their Wedding Day story:
Their Wedding Ceremony was held at The Cathedral of St Stephen in Brisbane City, one of the grandest churches I think I have ever seen – in Brisbane anyway! The bride was staying nearby so rather than bother with any kind of transport, she casually walked down to the church with her mum & bridesmaids. I love how relaxed my JFL girls are!
Father Grace led them in a beautiful wedding service, which was extra special as he also married Sarah’s parents… I love these kind of personal touches.
Introducing Mr & Mrs Bopf!
I am a huge fan of group photos after the Wedding Ceremony – not because they are fun or easy to organise, they are quite the opposite actually – BUT, because it is the one time that you will have a big group photo of all the people that were there to witness and be a part of you both becoming husband & wife! If I was a bride and it was my wedding, that is something that I would want to have, to look back on and smile. To be able to give that to my couples is well worth the 15 minutes of orchestrating!
After their Ceremony, it was time to walk to the Botanical Gardens for some pretty Bridal Party portraits…
But first… time to relax, pop some champagne and eat some tasty pastries with their Bridal Party! This is exactly why we always encourage an hour for Bridal Portraits, we are totally against rushing and honestly believe that these moments, are the ones they will remember long after the Wedding Day is over. Plus, who can say no to pastry!
The Botanical Gardens make for the best backdrop for your Wedding Photos if you’re getting married in Brisbane – there is the walkway by the water and some beautiful tree lined parklands that give just the most amazing backdrop! Who could ask for more?
I always try to dream up a new & unique shot to try with each of my couples – and knowing how tall Sarah was and seeing the gorgeous detail on her stunning Wedding Dress, I just had to try this pose! Doesn’t it just make her dress, hair & bouquet sing… I must admit, I’m a little in love with this photo (and those florals made by the amazing Kim at Anatomy of Flowers, ahh-mazing!)
Before long, it was time for their Reception at Fix Restaurant (which is located in the Port Office Hotel, just up from the Botanical Gardens). The girls at Main Event Weddings did such an amazing job of styling this space, ready for their guests to celebrate in style with the newlyweds!
The stunning cake by Gillian Bell was just incredible (and I must say, tasted just as good as it looked – I was lucky enough to be served a small piece by the staff, which I REALLY appreciated! It’s one of the only times, I’ve actually got to taste the Wedding Cake and I’m so glad it was one of Gillian’s!)
p.s This also made Nick extremely jealous as he is a big fan of Gillian’s – and cake in general actually!
Dan & Sarah’s Wedding Reception was such a fun night – some of the speeches were so personal, with stories being told about their younger selves and of course, Lenard’s Chicken getting a good mention also. I love that at a Reception there are just so many people that all love each other, under the same roof – sharing in a night that will be remembered for years to come… and yes, I am super sentimental haha
After a few photos of guests (& Mrs Bopf) cutting it loose on the dancefloor, it was time for me to leave them to it… and I’m sure, this lot danced long into the night! Dan & Sarah, thank you for trusting us to document this time in your lives, it was such a beautiful day and we wish you nothing but the best for your married life together! #horenomore
