When Xavier & Lara told me that they met when they were young… they really weren’t joking. Technically, their paths crossed for the first time during childcare when they were only 3 – but it wasn’t until a chance encounter at a mutual friends birthday party many years later as teenagers that they really got to know each other. Since then, their relationship seems to have been an amazing adventure – full of moonlight picnics, bushwalks, uni degrees, sci-fi movies and finally a scavenger hunt to end all scavenger hunts – the prize? A proposal and Engagement Ring. Their love story is a little like a fairy tale – and last Saturday, this prince charming got to marry his princess – and we were there to document it in all its glory.
Xavier & Lara, thank you for making Nick & I feel so very welcome. Getting to know you both over the last year has honestly been SO amazing – from our first coffee date to your Engagement Session, through to the advice email you sent when you found I was expecting a little JFL bubba, you both have the kindest hearts and make the perfect pair. We hope you have the best honeymoon in Vanuatu and cannot wait to show you more photos from your amazing wedding when you’re back! Lots of love, K & N xx
Until then, here’s a glimpse into their colourful Wedding Day story:
When I arrived to Lara’s parents home, I was greeted by Lara and her 2 gorgeous bridesmaids – her sister Gianna and Xavier’s sister Alexa! Lara’s parents have lived in this home for over 30 years, so it was not only where Lara grew up but also now where she got ready to marry the man of her dreams. So many special memories under one roof! There was not a cloud in the sky for what was shaping up to be a beautiful summer day, I started first by photographing all of Lara’s details while the finishing touches were done by the makeup artist.
Before long it was time for Lara to get dressed into her gorgeous gown…
Lara had chosen the most stunning Claire Pettibone wedding gown… that lace took my breath away!
BRISBANE WEDDING CEREMONY VENUE: STUARTHOLME SCHOOL CHAPEL
As 3pm approached, it was time to make our way to the chapel at the Stuartholme School. It was our first time photographing a wedding there and I must admit, my jaw almost hit the floor when I walked in and saw the stained glass backdrop to the chapel… it was just so striking and made Xavier & Lara’s Ceremony even more beautiful!
As Lara arrived, I photographed her before she exited the car – whilst Nick stood on a terrace above to document a different angle of her arrival. I adore being able to do this for our couples and having two photographers there makes it all possible! Lara, you are such a beautiful girl – both of these photos honestly remind me of royalty! (oh and look at the proud smile on her father’s face… it seriously gives me all the feels!)
I love that Xavier can’t take his eyes off his stunning bride… and what did I tell you about the stained glass! Isn’t it just incredible!
After a lovely Ceremony (and awesome group photo!) it was time for the bridal portraits with the newlyweds & their bridal party! We took some photos around Stuartholme School and then made our way to the Mount Cootha Botanical Gardens…
After all the rain we’ve been having in Brisbane, the gardens were green & lush – making the hour before sunset just that much prettier for their portraits…
Aren’t these two just the cutest flowergirls you ever did see? Aveline & Aurora did such a wonderful job, even joining us for photos after the Ceremony… I was very impressed!
BRISBANE WEDDING RECEPTION VENUE: LIGHTSPACE, FORTITUDE VALLEY
Meanwhile the finishing touches were being put on their Wedding Reception at Lightspace in Fortitude Valley. You guys, I adore this venue… it’s such a blank canvas that my couples can really make it their own, with as little or as much styling as they would like. Not only that, but there is a gorgeous space for canapes that is seperate to the main dining area – allowing us to photograph the setup before guests enter nice & easily… and after putting all this effort into how your Wedding Reception will look, it deserves to be photographed!
After the newlyweds had entered, it was time for some heartfelt speeches, cake cutting and a first dance to rival all firsts dances – but first, one of my favourite Reception activities – the Shoe Game was played! It always gets some great laughter & interaction from the guests and we all get to find out a thing or two about the newly married couple. Such good fun!
After their “La La Land” Inspired first dance (I told you it was pretty special), Lara & Xavier then joined their guests on the dancefloor long into the night, the perfect end to a perfect day…
Congratulations again you guys!!
