OLD GOVERNMENT HOUSE WEDDING: R&T

Rhys & Tui. I am almost lost for words when it comes to you two…

Tui & I have known each other for a couple of years, meeting as colleagues, while I was working at my last full time job. As soon as I met her, I instantly noticed her joy and the way in which she could light up a room up by just walking past. Becoming friends with her is something I’ll forever be grateful for… but being trusted to photograph her wedding to Rhys a few weeks ago, honouring her Maori heritage – is something that I’ll always treasure. On their wedding day, the sun was shining and it was such a beautiful winters day here in Brisbane… a perfect day for a couple as amazing as these two, to become husband and wife!!

Thank you so much for making Nick, Claire & I feel so welcome, it was a true honour to not only document your wedding day guys, but also get to know your friends and family! We enjoyed every moment of your wedding day… and I cannot wait to hear what you think of all the photos – and of course the wedding film! Nick is busy creating this for you as we speak, so stay tuned!!

Rhys & Tui got ready in Oaks Hotels & Resorts, which meant we could photograph the preparation for both the bride and the groom, which is something I love doing!! They exchanged presents the morning of the wedding and I just love being there to document these moments for both of them to look back on in the years to come.

When we first got to Tui’s, I set to work photographing the details, all the small things that are chosen with love and so much thought, all need to be documented. I always give my brides a list beforehand so that they can have it all ready to go – one less thing to think of on the morning of the wedding day! Look at Tui’s florals, aren’t they just divine… and extra special as they were made with love by a family member! Gorgeous.

Tui fell in love with a dress made by the very talented Karen Willis Holmes, one of my favourite designers here in Brisbane. The sequinned gown, just fitted her body like a glove… making Tui such a stunning bride! She wore it with a sheer overlay that softened the look, and could be taken off during the reception, bringing the sequins into their full glory , ready to party!

Mr Max & Miss Abbey played a big part in Tui & Rhys’s wedding day… and being this cute, they were show stoppers. Luckily, even though they had some big things to do, there was even time for a dance party! Miss Abbey showing us her moves!! Cute!

The moment Tui’s parents saw her in her wedding dress for the first time was beautiful… I love these moments! p.s this is exactly why you need two photographers, to capture both moments as they unfold!

The ceremony was held at Old Government House, which is on the QUT Campus here in Brisbane. It is such a beautiful building… inside and out!

Tui’s grandfather & brother sung her down the aisle… it was amazing! There were so many beautiful Maori traditions that were intertwined into their wedding, celebrating Tui’s families heritage.

After the ceremony, we made the most of the gorgeous grounds at QUT Gardens Point and took the bridal portraits around the stunning buildings… it sure does make a unique backdrop for your wedding photos! Love!

I love having fun with the whole bridal party… you get the serious photo and then the silly one. These guys were all so much fun!

The reception was held upstairs at Room 360, styled by Bridal Bliss & catered by the talented staff at Zen Catering. It was such a beautiful setting, with 360 degree views of the city, and as the night sky fell on their wedding day, it made such a romantic setting!

Rhys & Tui decided to play a bit of a game after the speeches… which was hilarious. I had never seen it done before and it was so much fun to watch. They were asked questions about their relationship and they had to vote for either themselves or each other, by holding up the corresponding shoe. So for example: who made the first move? They both held up Rhys’s shoe… there was a lot of laughter that followed each question… as you can see!

The gorgeous marquee letters were provided by Event Letters and made the perfect backdrop for their first dance as husband and wife…
