Anyone that knows me well might tell you that I have a pretty active imagination, from when I was a little girl imagining fairies & dragon (yes, I was that type of kid!) to even now, imagining & designing concepts in my head for my couples – whether that be for them to try themselves or just be inspired by. This was that type of shoot… I had dreamt about photographing a hot air balloon wedding – ever since I saw the movie UP I think (one of my faves, thanks Pixar!) but I wanted this to have a happy ending, without any tears & heartbreak (that movie always makes me ugly cry!)
Centred around two people, crazy in love – wanting to elope but not wanting to sacrifice beautiful moments – we gathered in the Byron Bay hinterland to document them promising their love to each other for the rest of their days. Intimate, romantic & simply beautiful… I hope that this inspires engaged couples to think outside the box and not settle for the ‘we have to’ because it’s ‘always done.’ I hear those words way too often!
Here’s a glimpse into this elopement story:
We took some portraits on the gravel road which leads to the Tyagarah airstrip, home of Byron Bay Ballooning… how pretty is that light and those florals. I was in heaven!
… and then it was time. Fully inflated, we all climbed inside the balloon to take the photos I’d only dreamt about. Needless to say, I was pretty giddy with excitement – and there were loads of squeals from all the girls involved. Seriously the best Tuesday ever!
Afterwards, we made our way back down to the picnic scene Ngaire from The Event Stylist & Co had created, adorned with florals, silks and hand illustrated place cards – it was almost too pretty! (if there is such a thing!)
