Feature Friday #9: Begitta – Wedding Dress Designer

There are people that I meet along this journey of being a wedding photographer that I just adore. From our first meeting, they have a joy about them, a passion for what they do and I always walk away feeling inspired. Begitta is one of those people! A bridal designer that was trained in Paris (amazing right!!), she creates custom couture gowns that leave me speechless every time. I have been lucky enough to not only work with her a couple of times now, but also very fortunate to call her my friend. I thought it could be fun to share some insight into what makes Begitta such a fab designer and how she got to where she is today (I always want to hear more about Paris, don’t you!!)

Ok, lovely…. So, how did you get started?

I’ve always been very creative! Like every child, I loved dressing up – but I would spend hours upon hours making things and drawing different things. It was when I did a Fashion Design course through grade 12 that I fell in love with working with fabric as an artistic medium. I then continued my study in fashion here in Australia and then as you mentioned, in Paris & London – at academies that are renown for designers such as Sarah Burton (she designed Kate Middleton’s Wedding Gown) as well as John Galliano (Dior) & Stella McCartney. Talk about being inspired!

What is it about weddings that you love so much?

I honestly believe that it an absolute honour to create an exceptional piece for a brides wedding day. To be able to ensure that each client has an unforgettable experience is a responsibility that I love to have! My goal is to always make my brides feel as though she has stepped into a dreamy, yet ever so chic fairytale!

What is the most unique thing you have seen designed for a wedding?

I LOVE brides that have a unique touch for their something old, new, borrowed & blue. I’ve just done a STUNNING wedding gown for a gorgeous overseas bride Ali, in which we had the pockets of the gown lined in blue velvet – it was such a lovely touch and so creative! Such a joy to make!

Ok, time for a very serious question. What is your favourite colour?

Blush Pink! It is so classic and girly, yet fun!! I love it!

As a creative person, I know that there are many places that one can be inspired. Can you share with us a little about what inspires you?

You’re so right, I get inspired by anything and everything! I love anything that draws on nostalgia and memories… I love imagination and enchanting love stories – a true romantic at heart. I love to create a story and feeling behind each collection and show the story in the garments, styling and photography.
