BEING A BRIDESMAID

Yesterday my little brother married the love of his life.

The day was filled to the brim of love and devotion, standing there as one of their bridesmaids, I could feel it radiating through them and falling onto every single person sitting on a wooden church pew. I cried tears from the happiness I felt for my little brother as I walked down the aisle (seriously, I couldn’t stop them from flowing), while he waited for his beautiful bride, tears also streaming down his cheeks (we can be an emotional family!) and collectively, we danced and danced until the last song and the bride & groom left on the start of their journey as husband + wife. It was wonderful to be in every moment, to soak it all up – without the presence of my camera. As much as I was itching to shoot and found myself still thinking all day like a photographer (not sure how to shut that off!) I made an intentional decision to leave my camera behind and just be in every moment. In every second. Celebrating with my brother and his new wife.

However, this complete focus on the wedding, gave me an entirely new appreciation for what we do as wedding photographers. To be honest, I fell in love all over again with the importance of our role on a wedding day and the part we play in every couples love story.

Yes, we take pictures, but we do so much more than that:

We:

calm nerves…

adjust dresses…

set the vibe for the portraits…

refill champagne glasses…

fix hair…

pin corsages…

keep track of the rings…

carry trains…

keep the groom on track for the ceremony…

adjust veils…

but most of all… we capture forgettable moments or moments that you didn’t even know had happened and make them priceless.

After watching my little brother get married, it made me understand on an even deeper level, what a gift wedding photographs are and I feel SO honoured to document a couples love, but also to be a vital part on one of the best days… EVER. For this I am eternally grateful and wish to thank all my past couples and all my brides + grooms to be…from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
