I adore shooting new venues in new places – especially when those places include a stunning forest, crystal blue lake and a picture perfect beach as photo spots! James & Maddie were married last month on Fraser Island and wow, it was incredible. It was the first time I’d been to Fraser Island and I must admit, it exceeded any expectations I might have had!
I also love it when my JFL couples are brave enough to make their wedding day exactly what they want it to be, dismissing any ‘rules’ or traditions. After spending some time with them during their Engagement Session (click here to have a peek) I knew these guys were that kind of couple. For their wedding, they decided to hold their ceremony at 9:30am so that their guests could explore the island & experience Lake McKenzie over lunch, before meeting again in the evening for sunset drinks & to celebrate with the newlyweds. Being an American girl, Maddie had some friends & family from overseas that had travelled over to be a part of their wedding day, so their experience was so very important to her. That’s the type of girl she is though, caring & thoughtful – and I know for that reason, their wedding will be one that their loved ones will never forget!
Here’s a glimpse into their wedding day story:
KINGFISHER BAY RESORT WEDDING, FRASER ISLAND
Maddie got ready with her 2 bridesmaids, Alice & Chloe, in one of the beach houses a part of Kingfisher Bay Resort. I can certainly think of worse places to get ready on your wedding day…
Maddie had some stunning details, one of my personal faves – those incredible earrings!
Maddie’s sister Alice is also a very talented hair stylist – which is a total bonus when you have an island wedding. She did such an amazing job!
James & Maddie chose to hold their ceremony at Central Station on Fraser Island… which is over an hours 4WD drive from the resort. The guests were all transported there by a 4WD bus – what an exciting start to the day!
Once all their guests had arrived, Maddie & her bridesmaids made their grand entrance…
Such an intimate spot to be announced Mr & Mrs Stanfield!
After their ceremony, we took some bridal portraits with the newlyweds and their bridal party. Having only about 15 minutes with the bridal party before they joined the remainder of the guests on their way to Lake McKenzie, I must admit, I’ve never hustled so fast in my life!
‘The Maddie’ Series. Such a stunning girl and now, James’ wife. What a lucky lad!
I don’t think you could get married on Fraser Island without visiting the stunning rainwater lake, Lake McKenzie. The weather gods were definitely on our side the entire day of James & Maddie’s Wedding, it rained on & off but always seemed to stop exactly when we needed it to for photos. At Lake McKenzie we had about 10 minutes in between torrential rain showers… but that’s all we needed!
As the sun started to set, James & Maddie made their way to the beach for sunset drinks with their friends & family… and of course, I stole them for a few minutes for some sunset photos! Talk about picture perfect!
Before I knew it, it was time to photograph their reception. My friend and talented stylist, Amey from The Perfect Party Co, transformed this outdoor dining area for their reception. You should have heard the oooh’s & aaah’s as everyone entered.
It was just perfect!
p.s Amey is also a planner & florist – there is seriously nothing this woman can’t do!
Josh Lovegrove from Lovegrove Music set the perfect atmosphere (I would HIGHLY recommend him you guys!) – once the newlyweds arrived, there were heartfelt speeches, great food and plenty of drinking & dancing. All the ingredients you need!
James & Maddie, congratulations again you two. Thank you so much for trusting us to document your Wedding Day. It was filled with so many incredible moments that still make us smile (that drive from the ceremony to Lake McKenzie with Jo from the resort will be something we always remember haha)
We wish you all the best for your future as husband & wife and now that great things are in store for you both! Lots of love, Nick & Kylie xx
I’d love to hear what you think – leave me a comment below (it honestly will make my day!) and I’m sure the newlyweds would appreciate some kind words to:
