When you think of Africa, you instantly think of safari’s and big, wild animals… I must admit, for me this was the most surreal part of our trip to this amazing country. Flying over there to photograph Kile & Rebecca’s stunning wedding was one thing, but getting to experience everything South Africa had to offer was beyond my wildest dreams. It exceeded every and any expectation we had going over… and I cannot wait to go back.
Here are some frames from the very first game drive we got to do at the incredible Garden Route Game Lodge… (which was also where Kile & Rebecca choose to become husband & wife! Click here to see their wedding blog post!) Once all the guests had checked in, we all set off with our guides to see as much as we could… the air was electric with everyone’s excitement!
You might remember seeing a gorgeous giraffe in their wedding photo’s, well there is definitely more than one at the game lodge… These guys were just so mesmerising and graceful with their slender, long legs.
I must admit, I think part of the reason we had such an amazing time was due to the group we were with! Nick & I didn’t know anyone before the trip (apart from the bride & groom of course), but spending 2.5 weeks with this bunch definitely made the trip what it was! Such an amazing group of people and I feel so lucky that we are able to call them friends now!
The game lodge has a wide variety of antelope, including South Africa’s national animal, Springbok. Such pretty animals with beautiful colouring… and when they jump – they launch off their back legs like a spring. Hence their name I suppose!
The Garden Route Game Lodge hosts the big 5… and we were lucky to sight all of them during our stay! Here are some of the Rhino we spotted during the afternoon drive:
Towards the end of the afternoon, Nick actually spotted a Cheetah in the long grass. It’s amazing how well they blend into the landscape… such a stunning yet powerful animal.
Check out those teeth!
After a couple hours out in the park, we started heading back to the lodge for a braai before tomorrow’s wedding… Um, what a perfect way to spend a Friday! Sitting in the back of that jeep, closing my eyes… I wanted to remember every smell, every sound – soak everything up! I have so much gratitude that we experienced this trip, with these amazing people!
