Most of you know how much I adore the Hunter Valley… it’s where I started to document weddings and where I find myself drawn back to time + time again – for work and play! So, when Sarah told me that’s where she first met James – I had to know more… and it turned out that it was at the wedding of a mutual friend, she was bridesmaid and James was the MC – how perfect!
Fast forward a couple of years and it was their turn to become husband and wife… and my goodness, what a celebration it was!
Here’s a peek into their wedding day story:
BRIDAL PREP VENUE: ALEX PERRY HOTEL, BRISBANE
Sarah and her bridesmaids got ready at a beautiful hotel here in Brisbane, the Alex Perry. Oh my goodness, this place is honestly a photographers dream for bride prep – it’s super pretty, with white walls and loads of great natural light… I’d highly recommend it for the morning of a wedding day!
When I arrived, Sarah and her girls were getting their makeup done at MAC, so I got started on all her pretty details… and tried to fight the urge to try on her incredible Karen Willis Holmes wedding dress while I was there on my own (don’t worry, I would never – but I can’t say I wasn’t tempted!)
I’m also a little bit in love with this photo of her Engagement Ring – I’m using her veil to create that white blur in the corner and on the left side of the frame… how pretty is it! (another reason why I love it when my JFL brides decide to have a veil – they come in super handy!)
Before long all the girls arrived back, along with her lovely mum Ruth and it was time for Sarah to get dressed and ready for her Wedding Ceremony… what a stunning bride she makes!
BRIDAL PREP VENUE: YUNGABA HOUSE, BRISBANE
Meanwhile James was getting ready at the stunning Yungaba House… I have to say, so often less importance is given to where a groom gets ready, so this gorgeous venue was like music to our ears for James’s prep photos and video!
James + his groomsmen were certainly relaxed and enjoying the lead up to the Ceremony as much as the girls were… and yes, a beer or two certainly helps with any pre-wedding nerves!
WEDDING CEREMONY VENUE: BLACKBIRD, BRISBANE
Before we knew it, it was time for Sarah + James’s Wedding at Blackbird Restaurant on the Brisbane river… the talented Gemma from Inspired by Love Events had created a stunning flower arbour, just making the backdrop that much prettier!
The lovely celebrant Natasha from Hills Celebrant Services led Sarah + James in a lovely Ceremony, full of touching personal sentiments… and ending in a brand new husband and wife!
After they were introduced as Mr + Mrs Hill for the very first time, we made our way back to Yungaba House for their bridal portraits! What a perfect location to take their first photos as a married couple…
This black + white image makes me go weak at the knees… gosh, it’s just so romantic, don’t you think!
I always allow about 30 minutes with the bridal party and another 30 minutes with just the bride + groom… I find this guarantees that we have enough time with the bridal party but also gives the newlyweds some time on their own as well! Often this is the first time that they get to pause and reflect on the fact that they are now MARRIED!
After we had finished using the grounds of Yungaba House, we wandered inside to use their stunning foyer – it also made the perfect opportunity for Sarah + James to share a glass of champagne and rest their weary feet. This getting married business is hard work!
WEDDING RECEPTION VENUE: BLACKBIRD, BRISBANE
As the sun set, the finishing touches were being done to Sarah + James’s Wedding Reception back at the stunning Blackbird Restaurant… their night would be filled with wonderful speeches, delicious food, love, laughter and plenty of dancing!
Congratulations again Sarah + James! Thank you so much for trusting me to document this time in your lives… it honestly was such an honour and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you both… all my love, Kylie x
